Love Fail at Bowling Green State University

LOVE FAIL

Wednesday, November 5 @ 8:00PM
Bowling Green State University

love fail is a meditation on the timelessness of love, weaving together details from medieval retellings of Tristan and Isolde with modern texts. Composer David Lang draws from a rich tapestry of sources—including Lydia Davis, Marie de France, Gottfried von Strassburg, Béroul, Thomas of Britain, and Richard Wagner—to explore love’s endurance, fragility, and mythic resonance.

This striking performance of Lang’s work features new original choreography by Pilobolus (Renée Jaworski and Matt Kent) for dance quartet, delivered alongside Lang’s expanded 8-voice arrangement of the original work, written for and premiered by Lorelei Ensemble, and recorded on the Cantaloupe label. Premiered in February 2024, this fully-staged version brings a visceral, contemporary physicality to the music and this unique telling of “the greatest love story”—merging voice and movement into an unforgettable exploration of love’s many forms.
