Make a love potion to celebrate with our new album—David Lang's love fail
Their love story is epic—Tristan and Isolde are forever bound in love after drinking a love potion. To help set the mood for the album release of love fail, we developed a signature cocktail. “The Wood and the Vine” is our refreshing modern interpretation of a love potion, taking its name from our favorite track. Designed by Theodora Lang, it's also yummy as a mocktail—trust us, we’ve tried every variation!

The Wood and the Vine
~ Designed by Theodora Lang (David's daughter)
Approximately 20 minutes, with cooking and cooling time.
A batch cocktail that serves 2-4
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup blueberries - fresh or frozen
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 sugar
1-2 large sprigs of rosemary
bourbon (optional)
club soda
ice
1. Make a shrub.
A shrub is a Western European fruit and vinegar syrup, with roots in mediaeval times, originally created to preserve fruit, and often mixed into drinks. To make the shrub, add the blueberries, water, vinegar, sugar, and rosemary to a small saucepan. Cook on medium to high heat until reduced significantly and syrupy, about 15 minutes. Let cool. Remove the rosemary.
2. Assemble the drink.
The ratio here is 2 parts club soda to 1 part shrub and 1 part bourbon. Add it all to a glass with ice and stir generously. Best not to do this in a shaker/ strainer, as it will strain out all the delicious blueberries.
3. You're done! Enjoy your drink!
This recipe makes enough shrub for a few drinks. Feel free to skip the bourbon; just the shrub and club soda make a really delicious and refreshing summer drink. If you have some shrub leftover, try it with vanilla ice cream. It makes for a very unusual and fantastic dessert.
Bonus: substitutions
Don't have any balsamic, blueberries, or rosemary? No problem! You can make this with a huge variety of things. peaches, plums, apricots, cherries, strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries all make delicious shrubs! You can swap balsamic vinegar for apple cider vinegar, and mint or even basil for the rosemary, or skip the herbs all together! Shrubs are flexible! If you don't have bourbon, any whiskey will do. Vodka would also taste great here.
