Lorelei Ensemble announces search for Managing Director
Lorelei Ensemble, a dynamic and innovative professional vocal ensemble, seeks a Managing Director to oversee finances and operations for the ensemble’s local and touring artistic activities. Working with multiple constituencies, including the Board of Directors, staff, performers, composers, and volunteers, the Managing Director will work to foster a professional culture of collaboration at all levels, in service to the mission and vision set out by the Board of Directors and Artistic Director. The Managing Director will also work to promote the Ensemble, and foster, expand, and elevate its brand both regionally and nationally. A passion for and an ability to articulate Lorelei’s unique mission and vision are crucial to success in this role.
Status: Competitive salary, half-time position (20-25 hrs)
Reports to: Board of Directors
Manage all financial activities of the organization, including maintenance of all related documents, bank accounts/records, and all incoming revenue and and outgoing expenses.
Process payments to all artists and independent contractors.
Work with Board Treasurer in submitting regular employee payroll as well as related employment tax and insurance forms
Prepare annual operating budget, in consultation with the Artistic Director, for submission to Board of Directors for approval.
Monitor income and expenses throughout the fiscal year, and make adjustments as necessary.
Prepare quarterly financial reports for the Board of Directors, and financial documents for all grant applications, as needed.
Work with Board Treasurer to prepare annual financial statements, and Form 990’s.
Maintain and file, in coordination with the Board of Directors, all records of the corporation.
Develop annual marketing and communications plan for promotion of all activities of the ensemble
Maintain communications with a local and national audience, including email marketing, in coordination with Social Media Manager and Artist Management, to maximize visibility and audience for all Ensemble activities, both locally and nationally.
Manage all matters of publicity for self-produced concerts, including creation of press releases and promotional materials, and ticket sales, with support of Publicity Manager.
Monitor website content and provide support and direction for website development, according to the priorities and current activities of the Ensemble (www.LoreleiEnsemble.com).
Monitor and respond to all Ensemble email communications and inquiries.
Manage online patron database.
Manage gift acknowledgements/receipts, and oversee patron communications
Coordinate and provide necessary administrative support for the Ensemble’s national touring activities, including:
Book and coordinate all travel/housing for individual artists and the Ensemble, as needed.
Work closely with Artist Management to provide all necessary information and materials as requested by presenting organizations.
Coordinate and provide necessary administrative support for the Ensemble’s self-produced activities, including concerts, artistic and educational residencies, and recording sessions.
With Artistic Director and Legal Counsel, develop and distribute all contracts and policies pertaining to Artist activities.
With the Board of Directors, oversee planning and execution of private events, including an annual fundraising gala.
Board of Directors:
Serve as non-voting ex officio member of the Board of Directors.
Work closely with the Board Chair to develop meeting agendas.
With the Board Chair and members of the Board, create and execute an annual development plan to support the artistic and administrative needs of the organization.
The successful candidate will possess most, if not all, of the following qualities or experience:
An abiding and demonstrated passion for music and the arts in the 21st century
Strong organizational ability and attention to detail
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Strong management, organizational and financial skills; experience working within a six-figure budget
Comfort and fluency in technology, including database and website management, and in social media platforms
Experience planning and executing large-scale projects: i.e. performance tours, concerts, fundraising events, educational residencies
The ability to effectively manage relationships with outside contractors, and the gravitas to oversee relationships with staff, volunteers, and musicians
The ability to partner with the Founder and Artistic Director, and to support and facilitate the work of internal and external collaborators, including performers, composers, the Board of Directors, volunteers, and community partners
A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional or academic experience
Additional skills preferred, but not required:
Experience and success in pursuing financial support from private donors, foundations, and corporations
Experience as an administrator and/or performer within the professional music industry
Experience and facility in non-profit board relations. Ensure that board members are well informed and that their time and talents are used wisely and efficiently
Experience in grant-writing for arts organizations.
